As the largest city in South Dakota, Sioux Falls has grown to become the hub for a broad, multi-state region. The Big
Sioux River tumbles over a series of rock faces in Falls Park, which includes an observation tower and the historical
ruins of the 19th-century Queen Bee Mill. Another historical attraction from that era is the Queen Anne style, Pettigrew
Home & Museum which features unique artifacts collected by South Dakota's first Senator, Richard F. Pettigrew.
The more recently restored Falls Park is a popular, must-visit site. In the winter, it becomes a Winter Wonderland
charmed with Christmas lights and decorations that complement the often snowy and chilled landscape. From spring to
fall, the Park hosts a wide variety of events and activities, ranging from farmers' markets to cultural events like
German Fest and Oktoberfest that celebrate the city's German heritage. In the not-so-overwhelming heat, the Downtown
area becomes a hotbed for some more unique activities, like a sporty and dynamic Corvette show in July and localized
block parties featuring community performances that showcase regional talent.
The Hertz operation at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport is among the largest within the broad network of
airports served by Overland West.
