Bismarck, the capitol city of North Dakota, was first traveled in 1804 when Lewis and Clark paddled up the Missouri River on their amazing journey to the northwest corner of the U.S. and the Pacific Coast.

Bismarck is a hub for culture, history, and shopping. Other key attractions include the Dakota Zoo, North Dakota Heritage Center and State Museum, and the historic Fort Abraham Lincoln, a fortress from which Colonel George Custer departed with his battalion on what would be his last ride en route to the Battle of Little Bighorn on the plains of Montana. From the observation deck of the 18th floor of the State Capitol, one can get a view of what makes Bismarck a true and historical destination.

The original keepers of the Bismarck-Mandan land were North Dakota's Indian people, the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara, and other tribes. The genuine Dakota spirit and heritage lives on to this day.
