Welcome to Missoula, Montana – Home of the University of Montana Grizzlies. Missoula has a rich history that includes documented stops of the Lewis & Clark Expedition, Fort Missoula established in 1877, which housed the 25th Infantry, that was comprised of Buffalo Soldiers, in the late 1880’s and the University of Montana. Missoula is also known for its blue-ribbon trout fishing, that was made famous in the Robert Redford movie based on the Norman Maclean novella “A River Runs Through It”. In more recent years, Missoula has become a premier destination for marathon runners, as host to the Missoula Marathon, which is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.

Missoula is not only an adult friendly community but is also a very kid friendly community as well. For the younger kids, there is the Carousel of Missoula and the Missoula Butterfly House & Insectarium. The carousel features handcrafted wooden merry go round ponies as well as a play area named Dragon’s Hollow. The Missoula Butterfly house features butterflies from around the world and a variety of insects, arachnids, centipedes to interest children and adults alike.

The surrounding area also features adult and family friendly activities. From visiting Glacier National Park, Garnet Ghost Town, watching the Missoula Paddleheads baseball games, hiking or biking the trails in the surrounding mountains and River Trail system, or hiking the “M” there is something for everyone. If you like river surfing, you can catch a wave on the Clark Fork River at Brennans Wave, which can be found in downtown Missoula. If you love to participate in winter activities, there is plenty for the downhill or cross-country skiers, snowshoers and snowboarders.

Not only is Missoula a great outdoor community, but we are also famous for our food. From the Mo Club to the Notorious P.I.G. BBQ to vegan donuts at Veera’s to homemade ice cream at the Big Dipper. If you crave it, Missoula probably has a place to get it at.
